Non Fiction Review: Men’s Prayer Journal

Mens Prayer Journal by Romal Tune
Mens Prayer Journal: A Place for Reflection, Praise, & Thanks
by Romal Tune

5 out of 5 stars

This simple journal is the perfect companion to a daily prayer time, with plenty of room for writing in thoughts or prayers, and a Scripture verse at the bottom of each page.

I like that there is NO introduction telling you how to pray, or how to use the book, or some long personal story about the author’s prayer journey. There are NO journal prompts or condescending “uplifting” stories about Christian life. It’s just blank pages ready for writing and a verse to inspire you. The simplicity of it is perfect!

This book begins with an inspiring introduction about prayer, types of prayer, and Scripture verses regarding prayer. Whether it is gratitude, petition, intercession for others, praise, confession, or just simple communion with God, this book has a place for every prayer that is on your heart.

Each page has a place for writing a few short lines of prayer, with prompts and topics to prayer for each day. Non Fiction Review: Make Great Decisions

Make Great Decisions Christian Workbook for Teen Girls by Jocasta Odom
Make Great Decisions Christian Workbook for Teen Girls
by Jocasta Odom

4 out of 5 stars

This Christian workbook has wonderfully positive encouragement for young girls, reminding them that they are daughters of the King, more than conquerors through Christ, and they can navigate tough decisions in life with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

This book is peppered with Bible verses on every page, and excellent affirmations and Biblical truths to boost the confidence of the young Christian. The Scriptures are taken from various translations like NIV, MSG, NASB, and ESV, so the reader might want to read along with their own preferred Bible edition.

One of the special things about this workbook is the variety of activities included. There are quizzes, true or false questions, meditations and prayers, creative writing exercises, and ways to serve God in your family, school, neighborhood, and church. Continue reading

Book Review: Eating with the King

Eating with the King
Eating with the King by Terri Rockwell

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was so impressed with this little book, especially because every page quotes Scripture! There are so many positive messages of encouragement in this book. Instead of making people feel guilty about their cravings, and their eating habits, or how their body looks, this book offers healing, positive attitudes, triumphant freedom, and constantly points the reader to Christ.

I think this book could apply to any craving or addiction, not just eating food. The messages in this book would help with anything that draws us away from God, forms a bad habit, or entices us to harm our health in some way. Continue reading

Review: The One Year at His Feet Devotional

The One Year at His Feet Devotional
The One Year at His Feet Devotional by Chris Tiegreen

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book has one page entry for each day of the year, but it took me two years to read it! haha!
I loved how insightful and deep each devotional page is despite being short. There’s a lot of spiritual information packed concisely into each page.

I liked that there is a quote from a famous Christian, apologist, missionary, saint, or preacher on each page that corespondents with the subject of the day.

Each paragraph really makes you think and reevaluate your beliefs, and at the end of each topic there is a call to apply the lesson to your life in a real and tangible way through prayer and action.

A wonderful devotional for those who don’t want spiritual “fluff”, but are ready for the “meat” of the Word!

Book Review: Living as a Christian: Teachings from First Peter

Living as a Christian: Teachings from First Peter
Living as a Christian: Teachings from First Peter by A.W. Tozer

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Tozer goes through most of the verses in 1 Peter, giving an overall view of what it means to be a Christian: what the true Christian believes, how the true Christian acts, and how the true Christian lives in a fallen world.

I found some of the writing to be wonderfully deep and insightful, but other parts were almost childish in their simplicity. There’s also a lot of repetition of the same ideas, same words, over again, and that got on my nerves.

The content is excellent with strong doctrine, but the writing is flabby and could use more editing. Continue reading

Book Review: Warrior Chicks

Warrior Chicks: Rising Strong When Life Wants to Take You Down
Warrior Chicks: Rising Strong When Life Wants to Take You Down by Holly Wagner
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is an empowering book about relying on God, surviving the battles of life, and being beautiful just the way you are! It’s definitely an inspiring and encouraging book!
One thing I really loved about this book is that it doesn’t just encourage you to survive through the dark places in life, but to also overcome that darkness and come out on the other side with inner light that you can shine onto others. Continue reading
